Hi everyone. Mike here from MC Boudoir in Ocean County. Boudoir photography has grown into something much more than just capturing still images. Today, it’s an experience that can include everything from intimate photo sessions to boudoir videos. Many women are finding it to be a unique way to surprise their partners with something truly special. Riley, a 35-year-old married woman with a sweet and family-oriented personality, decided to step out of her comfort zone to create a NJ boudoir video as an anniversary gift for her husband. Her story is a perfect example of how boudoir can be both fun and unexpectedly empowering.
What I've learned in my 15 years of shooting boudoir is the every woman has her own unique reason for doing a boudoir shoot. Riley joked with me that no one in her circle of friends could imagine her doing something like a boudoir session. In fact, she laughed at the idea that if she called her husband in the middle of the shoot-- and even sent him photos during, he wouldn’t believe she was actually doing it! But Riley was determined to try something new, something that was a little out of character. When she arrived for her session, she was surprised at how comfortable she felt and decided to embrace the experience fully.
With a little guidance, and a lot of laughter, Riley even chose to create an erotic video, which was far from anything she’d typically do! The result? She had an absolute blast, laughing and enjoying the moment in a way she never expected. Though she sees it as a one-time adventure, Riley loved every minute of her session, and her husband was thrilled with the final gift.
Let's read a bit more about her exciting session...

The Interview: Riley's Boudoir Video Experience
Mike: (Comically chuckling) Riley, thanks for sharing your experience with us. What inspired you to try a boudoir video session?
Riley: You're laughing at me already! Ha ha. This is going to be fun... and embarrassing! Honestly, I just wanted to do something different, something out of my usual character. My friends would never believe I’d do something like this, and I thought it would be a fun surprise for my husband. I joked that if I called him during the shoot and told him what I was up to, he’d probably think I was kidding!
Mike: How did you find me?
Riley: I was Googling for photographers and you kept popping up. I kept reading your material and there was a ton of information-- and I don't know-- it had a fun, relaxed vibe and I felt like I wanted to know more about it. It made me feel comfortable like I knew what you would be like.
Mike: I do remember our talk and you were saying how this was so not like you. How did you feel leading up to the session?
Riley: I was a little nervous, to be honest. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and it’s not exactly something you do every day. I didn't tell you this, but in the back of my mind I really wanted to do one of those videos but I didn't want to commit up front. I figured, if it wasn't exactly what I thought it would be I could just tone everything down, but when I got there, I actually felt a lot more comfortable than I thought I would. You made everything so relaxed and easygoing, which really helped.
Mike: I think you just kept laughing--
Riley: I know... (laughing) I was having fun. No, but seriously, I think we did some photos in that black outfit first, and we were talking and I kept asking you what was popular and what other women were doing--
Mike: Cuz you want to be like everybody else?
Riley: Nooo! I just didn't know what women would come in and do, and I didn't want to be the first to come in and ask about something and you be like, Eeeek--- I saw the photos on your website but I wanted to do something a bit wilder, I mean I'm here might as well go for it.
Mike: So, of all the things we ran through, you wound up picking the absolute craziest idea---
Riley: NO!
Mike: --I'm just teasing. You see though, it makes me self conscious a bit because, I don't mind talking about ideas, and I remember showing you a few video clips, but I don't like influencing people's decisions because I don't' want to come off as pushing someone into something they may not be 100% OK with, so it's a real balancing act.
Riley: I never felt that way, but it was actually really helpful, but you don't want to be the first person EVER to suggest an idea and feel really awkward about it or that you went too far.
Mike: That's completely understandable. This kind of stuff isn't something people talk about every day-- not to say with someone they really don't know...
Riley: I know. You have a tricky job.
Mike: It can be at times. It's a balancing act maybe a bit more than people think.
Riley: It was all good. First, I said, this isn't something that is my usual every day thing, but hey, we're grown women.
Mike: So, after some deliberation and you laughing for 10 minutes you ended up doing a personal erotic video.
Riley: I know, right? That’s so not me! I asked you for some ideas, and after talking it over, I just thought, "Why not?" It was one of those moments where I decided to just go for it. Surprisingly, I had so much fun with it. We were laughing like crazy afterward. It was such an unexpected good time. Just don't tell people what I did--- LOL.
Mike: That's our secret. We'll, you were laughing and grinning through the entire thing--
Riley: I know. I'm trying to make a hot video and I'm giggling the entire time. Real good. LOL.
Mike: You laughed for like 5 minutes after.
Riley: I know. I know. (laughing) I'm so bad of an actor. Is it normal for people to ask to see the video like right after?
Mike: No, that's very abnormal! I have edit the entire thing.
Riley: Really! I was curious how I looked. (laughing.) So, I am abnormal? (laughing.)
Mike: OMG.
Riley: But really, after I left I was telling my friend about the day-- she knew I was doing the session-- and how I felt so energized after I left. It was a good time.
Mike: Would you consider doing something like this again?
Riley: Never say never, but probably not! It was definitely a one-time adventure for me, but I’m so glad I did it. The experience was amazing, and I loved how the final video turned out. My husband was thrilled, which made it all worth it.
Mike: That’s great to hear. How did your husband react to the video?
Riley: He was completely shocked—in a good way! He couldn’t believe I actually went through with it. He loved it, and it’s definitely something we’ll both remember for a long time. I think he’s still a little surprised that I did something so out of character. I'm actually so surprised still, but it was well worth it, and Diana texted you right? See, I was so excited I was telling my friends. Now, you'll have to deal with my friend group. Ha ha.
Mike: Yes, I talked to her. You see, and now all your friends are going to be copy-cats! So unoriginal....
Riley: Right!

Conclusion
Riley’s story is a wonderful example of how boudoir sessions can be a fun and empowering way to try something new. It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing the unexpected. Whether it’s a one-time adventure or something more, boudoir videos can be a memorable and unique gift for your partner. Riley’s journey shows that sometimes the best experiences come from taking a chance and trying something a little bit different.
