This is an account of one woman's boudoir story. Names have been changed to protect privacy. Images used are not the images of the client.
Hi everyone. Boudoir photography has changed dramatically over the past 15 years. It’s no longer just about taking intimate photos; it’s become a transformative experience for many women. Boudoir sessions now often involve creative, personal scenarios that allow clients to explore new sides of themselves.
As a professional NJ boudoir photographer with over 15 years of experience, I’ve seen how this art form has evolved over the past decade... and I love it. Each session is unique, offering a safe space for self-expression and discovery. My work is recognized across New Jersey, and I share my experiences and insights through social media and my YouTube channel.
One of the more memorable stories in my career is that of Jennifer. Two years ago, she came to me for a boudoir session as an anniversary gift for her husband. They both loved the experience, and Jennifer had a fantastic time. Recently, her husband reached out to schedule another session with an intriguing twist: he asked my thoughts on organizing a session with Jennifer being photographed with another man. After discussing this with Jennifer, she was on board, eager to make her husband happy and curious about how we could make this happen.
Requests like these are a bit more common than you might think! Whenever I receive such inquiries, I always ensure that the wife or girlfriend is enthusiastic about the idea. It’s crucial for me to have a conversation with them to ensure they are comfortable and excited about the session. This approach has helped me create positive and enjoyable experiences for my clients.
Jennifer had no reservations. She was curious and excited, even wondering if she was the first to make such a request. I assured her she wasn’t. Jennifer is a 40-year-old, happily married, fitness enthusiast who works full-time in the medical field. She’s a down-to-earth mom who enjoys country music. Although she was nervous during her first session, it turned out to be a great and fun experience for her.

The Interview: Jennifer's Boudoir Journey
Mike: Jennifer, thank you for sharing your story. Can you tell us a bit about your previous boudoir session?
Jennifer: Of course! Holy- I can't believe that was almost two years ago-- My first session was about two years ago, and it was such a fantastic experience. It was an anniversary gift for my husband, and he absolutely loved it. I had a blast, too. We did a photo shoot and created a custom album, which turned out beautifully. I still look at that album all the time.
Mike: So, what led to the decision for this second session with a new twist?
Jennifer: My husband actually gave hints about it. He texted you first, right? And you have to understand, I have such a regular every-day life. We talked about this privately, but it was always just talk. He hinted that he’d love to see me with another man in the photos. It was definitely a different idea, but after chatting with him and then with you, I was onboard. I love making my husband happy, and I was curious about how we could plan this out.
Mike: How did you feel about the idea initially?
Jennifer: Honestly, it was a bit outside my comfort zone. I’ve never done anything like this before, and it was hard to even say out loud that I was attracted to the idea. I remember joking, "Am I the first person to ask for something like this?" It felt surreal, but also exciting. I was definitely nervous but in a good way. You don't want to feel like you're the only person in the world to ever ask this...
Mike: You certainly weren't....
Jennifer: I know. I know. I started to feel much better about it after I heard that....LOL
Mike: What happened when it came time to find someone for the session?
Jennifer: Well, that was an adventure in itself! I initially thought you would provide the man, which was a hilarious misunderstanding. When you told me I had to find someone, it was a bit of a challenge. We did find someone, but he backed out right before the session. I was disappointed but still wanted to go through with my session.
Mike: I remember you texting me about it. How did the session day unfold?
Jennifer: Despite the hiccup, I decided to come in anyway. It's just fun to do a boudoir shoot, so I really knew I would have fun doing another shoot and come up with some new posing ideas.
Mike: I was still getting texts on that day from your husband.... LOL
Jennifer: ...So embarrassing. I know. I remember my husband texting you, hinting that maybe you could step in. I was having a blast doing the videos, and he was texting me for like a half hour to ask you. I know you don’t usually get involved in the sessions, and I respect that. So, photographers don't like getting in front of the camera...
Mike: No, it's not really that, I don't mind photos. I'm filming and taking photos of myself for social media all the time... I just don't have an interest in being in... or intruding in someone's else session... Trust me, no one wants THIS (pointing to myself) in their photos. Putting me in a photo isn't going to make it better...LOL
Jennifer: Oh, stop. I think its more like someone who works in a candy shop and they have chocolate all day and you see it so much you get sick of it... LOL
Mike: Interesting theory.....
Jennifer: I was really so OK with it. But I appreciated that you considered helping me out. We had a great time doing shots with some new poses I didn't do in my last session, did some cute videos which we didn't do last time. Loved it.
Mike: Yes. video has grown so much over the past five years or so, and I was really taken by surprise a bit, honestly, how women would arrive prepared with... and I always hate saying this word... but a list of erotic videos ideas they wanted to produce during their session. I don't know what's going in the water over the past few years, but women have really hit a new level when it comes to exploring their sexuality.
Jennifer: Well, you know, it's not something you do every day.... ha ha... but it's fun. I had fun making the videos. You make it fun and easy and I think it's a testament really to how comfortable you make people feel.
Mike: Alright...alright.. This isn't about me. But you see, we actually were a good evil team because we hatched a plan...
Jennifer: Yes. So, I didn't tell him we actually did a few videos, and decided to keep that part a secret until the reveal.
Mike: What was your and his reaction to the final photos and videos?
Jennifer: I was thrilled! The photos and videos turned out amazing, and I was so grateful for your help, especially with the last-minute changes. The session was fun, and I loved the creative process. My husband was over the moon with the surprise, and it was such a unique gift. Thank you for making it all happen, even when things didn’t go as planned.
